Community

Left Hand Animal Hospital is dedicated to helping the communities around us.  We belong to many communities, including those of veterinary medicine, animal welfare and care, and Niwot, Colorado.

Volunteering

Left Hand Animal Hospital is dedicated to helping those around us. Every team member generously donates a minimum of eight hours of volunteer time. We volunteer for Therapy Dogs of Boulder County (http://www.therapydogsbouldercounty.com), donating speaking time and behavioral examinations to dogs that volunteer in human hospitals.  We are part of the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study (http://www.caninelifetimehealth.org), and Nancy Bureau, DVM was one of the first veterinarians in the United States to volunteer her time and care to this study, which dedicates itself to trying to find a cure for cancer in dogs. We offer no-cost  initial exams to animals that are adopted from humane societies and rescue organizations to help decrease the costs to new pet parents.

We help with Niwot Community programs, also. We are proud to be a part of the Niwot Business Association (http://www.niwot.com/niwot-business-association) and volunteer at many activities throughout the year. We are proud to be part of Boulder County and part of animal care and welfare. Come join us at our next volunteer activity!

Mentoring

Katie Thomas and Nancy Bureau and all of us at Left Hand Animal Hospital are motivated to pass on our love of helping animals and their human companions. We give talks to local animal groups including kennel clubs and doggy meet up groups about veterinary care.  We donate time to talk to doggy day care facilities about pet care.  We talk to student groups about careers in veterinary medicine.  We mentor volunteers of all ages (under twelve years may need a guardian in attendance) and all interests, from people interested in exploring new careers to students at local high schools, colleges, and universities interested in becoming veterinary receptionists, technicians, and veterinarians.  Contact us if you have questions or are interested in mentorship!

1% Back to the Community

Left Hand Animal Hospital wants to help “pay it forward”.  As part of our community dedication, we donate 1% of our client receipts to worthy groups and causes.  Each quarter, we feature  two to three different groups or causes.  For every $100 spent, animal guardians are given tokens and encouraged to donate them to the featured group of their choice.  Do you know a not-for-profit or non-profit group that could use our help?  Forward us a link on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lefthandanimalhospital), and each quarter, we will ask our Facebook friends to help us pick!

Pet Memorial Program

Left Hand Animal Hospital wishes to help celebrate the lives and memories of our devoted animal companions. As part of that celebration, we donate to Project Animal Aid (www.projectanimalaid.org) for each companion that has left our lives, but not our hearts. Project Animal Aid distributes donated veterinary equipment and supplies to veterinarians working in animal-related non-profits around the world. With our donations, the spirit of our departed animal friends lives on by helping to improve the lives of other animals across the globe.
