Julie Dobbs, DVM

Julie was born and raised on the beautiful northern coast of California.  Riding horses since the age of four inspired her love for animals and her desire to become a veterinarian. She received both her undergraduate and veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis. After graduation in 2018, her need for exploration and mountain living brought her to Boulder, CO, where she began working as a small animal practitioner and acupuncturist.

Her primary interest in the veterinary field is enhancing the human-animal bond through improving both the physical and mental wellbeing of pets. She loves getting to know pet parents and their lifestyles so she can better ensure they get the most from their animal companions. Other professional interests of Julie’s include acupuncture, behavior, preventative medicine, surgery, and exotic companion animal medicine. (Only cats and dogs are seen at Left Hand Animal Hospital but feel free to ask her any questions about your rodent, rabbit, bird, lizard, or snake friends!).

Julie’s household is run by two strong feline personalities, Chester and Toby. Chester teaches her the nuances to being around sensitive and spicy cats, while Julie has taught him clicker training and voice commands. Toby shows Julie (and every human, dog or cat who visits) how to find the best lap to sit on and to always be at peace with the world. Apache, a 14-year-old quiet and wise Husky-mix, and Tyler, her boyfriend and fellow veterinarian, will be joining the household permanently this summer.

Julie spends her free time exercising via riding horses, running, skiing, hiking, doing yoga or Pilates, and taking Apache out for “sniffs”. To help earn back calories, Julie enjoys home cooking and drinking hop and barley flavored beverages. On the weekends you’ll find Julie learning to brew craft beer by day and dancing in Denver by night.

Julie is a bright eyed and bushy tailed veterinarian who is so excited to work with the great team Left Hand Animal Hospital and the amazing pet parents and their furry friends that come with it!
